Thank you for considering the Neumann-Mouw Draft Horse School.

Instructors

These are the instructors for the school.

The Neumann-Mouw Draft Horse School will be held at the Dr. A. J. Neumann farm at Orange City, Iowa. Orange City is located approximately 40 miles northeast of Sioux City, Iowa. Classes will begin each day at 8:30 A.M. and end at 4:30 P.M. The day will be spent learning about horses and handling horses. The students will be split between the two instructors. Half will start with Dr. Neumann and half with Bob Mouw until the noon break each class day and will switch for the remainder of the day (see lodging/resturant options below). Come prepared to learn!

The February Starting Draft Stock in Harness School will be more oriented to the training of the young horse. Bob will show you different training methods used. The colts will be started from haltering to driving young teams. Dr Neumann's part of the school will be the way they are listed in all the schools.

We limit the size of the class to 8 students so you get a little more personal instruction than some of the schools. The fee for the dual school is $500.00. One half is payable upon registration for the school, the other half is payable upon arrival for the beginning of the school. The noon meal will be provided each day.

The nutrition course alone will enable the student to save enough money in feeding the draft animal to make the course worthwhile.

Bob Mouw will spend his share of the day demonstrating how to start two or three year old colts in harnesses. Different methods of training will be demonstrated to include hitching the young horse for the first time. No fieldwork will be done on Sunday.
